HOW WE MAKE DISCIPLES

Every disciple growing in Christ; every disciple going with Christ.

One of the best questions a new member or guest can ask is:
“How do I grow as a disciple here?”

At Emmanuel, our vision is clear:

Every disciple growing in Christ; every disciple going with Christ.

Discipleship is not a program we offer. It is the normal Christian walk we take together.

What Is Discipling?

Discipling is: An intentional relationship where one believer helps another follow Jesus more faithfully.

We want everything we do to strengthen discipleship,

Jesus commands us: “Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)

At Emmanuel, discipling is:

Intentional – We take initiative.

Purposeful – We aim at spiritual growth.

Humble – We treat one another as brothers and sisters, not projects.

Joyful – We grow together in Christ.

Normal – This is ordinary Christianity.

Every member is both:

A disciple who needs encouragement.

A disciple called to encourage others.

Where Discipleship Happens at Emmanuel

Discipleship is an ecosystem, not a single event.

GATHER

Sunday Worship (10:30 AM)
Word-centered worship (God’s revelation and our response) shapes us weekly.

GROW

Discipleship Hour (9:30 AM)
Structured teaching and equipping.

Community Groups
Applying Scripture in smaller circles.

Discipleship Groups (D-Groups)
Intentional growth through Scripture, accountability, and prayer.

GO

We help one another:

·         Share the gospel.

·         Live missionally.

·         Serve faithfully.

·         Speak of Jesus together.

D-Groups strengthens our pillars:

We REACH by encouraging evangelism through building relationships.

We TEACH by studying to know and apply Scripture personally.

We SEND by helping one another live on mission with Jesus in the world.

What Does a Discipling Relationship Look Like?

It may include:

Discussing Sunday sermons together by sharing notes and personal insights.

Reading Scripture using the God–Man–Christ–Response framework.

Praying honestly about sin and spiritual growth.

Practicing how to share your testimony.

Serving together and debriefing afterward.

Meeting regularly for encouragement and accountability.

There is no single formula.

What matters is intentional, Word-centered investment.

How Do I Begin?

Take Initiative.
Ask someone to meet regularly. Don’t wait to be asked.

Join a Community Group.
Relationships often deepen there.

Join or Start a D-Group.
Smaller circles allow focused growth. D-Groups can be one on one, or groups of three to six that meet for mutual faith strengthening.

Ask for Help.
Talk to an elder or group leader if you’re unsure where to begin.

At Emmanuel, we are:

Elder-led. Deacon-served. Congregationally accountable.

Discipling belongs to the whole body.

Why This Matters

Jesus said:

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

Discipling:

  • Guards us from drifting.
  • Strengthens us against sin.
  • Prepares us for mission.
  • Makes the gospel visible.

We do not simply attend church. We belong to Christ and to one another as the church.

Let’s build a culture where:

Every disciple is growing.

Every disciple is going.

And Christ is glorified in His church.

If you’re ready to take your next step, speak with an elder or group leader.
